From "The Winner's Circle" by Lou Tice, founder of the Pacific Institute, Seattle, WA.  We lost Lou last month to a serious illness, but his life's work lives on.  As we learn to direct our thinking toward specific desires and outcomes, our quality of life improves and the productivity of those around us follows suit.  Every one of us has the God given potential to be an amazing role model.

Acting On Impulse Can Be A Very Good Thing, And It Can Be Very Risky Business.

Have you ever gone shopping to buy just one or two things and come home with a couple of bags full?  Let's talk about the pros and cons of making impulsive decisions.  Do you ever act on your impulses, or make spontaneous decisions to do things?   Most of us know that acting on impulse can have negative consequences, like when you're in the grocery store or investing large more...

David Allen is a productivity consultant and the author of "Getting Things Done". He is a list-maker and systems guy. Tony Schwartz is the author of "Be Excellent at Anything" and a regular Harvard Business Review blogger. Tony believes that we should work intensely for about 90 minutes and then take a break. He is convinced that naps increase productivity.

In May of 2011, HBR wrote an article titled "Being More Productive", featuring concepts from each of these two men, who knew of each other but had not met. They consulted for many of the same companies and sometimes did seminars back to back. One day, their paths crossed, beginning a powerful collaboration that can help all of us gain a better understanding of what it takes to be productive, effective, efficient, and organized. The article is a good read, and can be found on the HBR website.

When was the last time you spent some quality time . . . with yourself?

A word you don't hear much these days is "solitude."  Maybe that’s because it has become rare. Too much solitude can feel like punishment, but some is essential if we are going to grow.  We are surrounded at work, at home and everywhere else, but it is solitude we need for reflective introspection.

One reason carpooling hasn't worked well is because solitary driving time is precious to so many of us. Many busy people, who can afford it, hire drivers because their time alone in the car is more...

Today, American Business Is Shifting

In the name of efficiency and profitability companies are implementing process improvements, changing business models, navigating acquisitions, and in some cases hiring new leaders to get the job done.

The Harvard Business Review states that most US corporations are over managed and under led. They need to develop their capacity to exercise leadership. HBR goes on to affirm that leadership doesn’t work without management, and in fact, that scenario could be disastrous. The more...

The following is the philosophy of Charles Schultz, creator of the Peanuts comic strip. He reminds us of the importance of “Authenticity” and what is really important. Balance is key to leadership, and taking things too seriously can compromise perspective. Scroll through slowly and read carefully. Don’t actually answer the questions; just read and enjoy the list of blessings at the end.

Just don't ask Brett Farve!

When Brett Farve retired, Sports Illustrated asked him what he was going to do and he proudly replied, “Nothing. And I’m going to stick to that until I do something else.” How can such a smart guy fail to understand the first basic rule of retirement?

If you don’t have purpose, you will run out of fuel. Looking forward to more...

Brandon was hired as the new CEO of a large high tech corporation. The CEO, who was stepping down, met with Brandon privately and presented him with three envelopes, numbered 1, 2 and 3.

“Open these if you run up against a problem you don’t think you can solve,” the departing CEO said.

Personal effectiveness, work life balance

Although we recommend this article by author, Stewart Friedman, we do not agree with his concept that balance is the wrong metaphor. He says that balance implies trade-offs; giving up one thing to get another. He prefers to apply leadership principles to all more...

Inspirational Thoughts For the New Year by Zig Ziglar

I am doing better than good because.....

1. I clearly understand that failure is an event, not a person; that yesterday ended last night, and today is my brand new day.

2. I have made friends with my past, am focused on the present, and optimistic about my future.

3. I know that success (a win more...
