How's Your Sense of Humor?
Sometimes what seems like a good idea at the time can go seriously awry. Knowing that all setbacks are temporary, and keeping a sense of humor is critical to leadership. Knowing when to laugh at yourself or your situation is a key component to perseverance and self-preservation.
One of my favorite movies is Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. There is a scene where they are robbing a train and getting ready to blow the safe. They take cover, and when the fuse hits the end, the whole boxcar disintegrates. With money floating through the air, Sundance grins and says, “You think you used enough dynamite there Butch?” That line became famous. We fell in love with those guys. They were constantly in a jam, never really had a plan, and yet they never took things too seriously. Albeit fiction and real life doesn’t have stunt doubles, there is a lesson here.
If you are worth your salt, you are going to try new things. Some of them are not going to work. Some of your mistakes are going to be costly, and some are going to present great opportunities. You won’t see those opportunities if you don’t know how to keep your balance during setbacks.
The following story is just for fun. This person had a good idea, good intentions, and the desire to make sure he was on the right track. His decision making was suspect, but he pushed forward with conviction and curiosity. Bless his little heart.
A guy who purchased his lovely wife a pocket Taser for their Anniversary submitted this hilarious story:
Last weekend I saw something at Larry’s Pistol & Pawn Shop that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th Anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife Julie.
What I came across was a 100,000-volt pocket/’purse-sized taser. The effects of the taser were supposed to be short lived with no long-term adverse affect on the assailant allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety.
WAY TOO COOL!!!!!!!!!
