Chasing the Good Life (page 2)
Keep Believing and Keep Moving:
The reason it’s important to dream in living color is because it’s hard to believe in great things sometimes. It’s hard to imagine walking again, for instance, if you’ve just lost a leg. And yet, people do it every day. Some of them run marathons. Everyone can accomplish great things. William Shatner (Star Trek’s Captain Kirk and Boston Legal’s Denny Crane) lived most of his career working hard, living paycheck to paycheck. He experienced countless setbacks, and yet continued to believe he was destined to be an actor, and someday his ship would come in. He was right, but there were years of doubt and frustration. Believing every day, without tangible evidence, kept him going.
Believe these things:
- All things are possible for those who believe and work toward their dreams
- All setbacks are temporary
- Change is a good thing, embrace it
- When good things happen to you, believe you deserve them
*Your smile brightens the day for those around you - You are entitled to nothing – You will make your own way in this world
- Good things are waiting beyond every horizon – keep moving toward them
- Whiners rarely prosper
- Winning without ethics is counterfeit
- Prosperity at the expense of morality is worthless
Consider This:
Do you know people who:
- Want to lose weight but don’t change how they eat?
- Complain about their job but don’t look for a new one?
- Complain about employees but don’t address the tough issues?
- Talk about money problems and then buy a car or go on vacation?
- Blame their spouse or their parents for their constant state of unhappiness?
- Blame their boss for their lack of success?
- Blame the economy for their lack of opportunity?
- Blame their government for pretty much everything?
- Wait on others to solve their problems and complain about how long it’s taking
We all know these people. If we hang around them too much, it’s possible we will start to adopt “victim behavior” as a way of life.
Beware of Victimhood
Victimhood is a serious illness. Victims are everywhere like potholes in the highway of life. Victim thinking has spread across our country in epidemic proportion. The most frightening aspect of this is that these people vote, and candidates know how to rally and temporarily invigorate them to get elected. If previous generations had grown up privileged and entitled, we would not have the great opportunity we have today. I will spend the rest of my life promoting MagisThinking TM and fighting victimhood. It is the least I can do in return for the many blessings I enjoy.
Reprogramming the Autopilot
Having the courage to change and the commitment to sustain it is truly something to celebrate. To create lasting change a person must reprogram how they automatically think in certain situations. Grabbing the rudder will turn you in the right direction, however until the autopilot is reprogrammed, you will backslide every time you let go of the rudder. You must learn to see yourself as if you already are what you aspire to become. Over a period of time the transformation happens. Remember, “all setbacks are temporary”. Look at them only long enough to learn the lesson they contain, and then refocus on your envisioned future. There are endless examples that support this perspective. Make yours one of them beginning today.
