Thriving in Hard Times
Opportunity abounds during times when most people can’t see it.
It’s time to think differently about what you want and how to get it!
According to Life Coach, Gail Blanke, everyone she encounters is struggling with rocketing gas prices, the sub-prime debacle, increasing health care costs, and decreasing job opportunities. Many of them feel stuck in a situation they feel they can’t do anything about.
People stay in jobs they don’t love, hoping for better times; they put off moving into a bigger home until they can get a better deal on their current house; they may put off college for a year until family finances improve. And yet, if there were ever a time embrace new thinking, it is now.
Becoming entrenched in one way of being, one way of living, and one way of seeing yourself are dangerous paradigms. On the other hand, overreacting to the issues without clear vision and good information can also be a recipe for disaster. As individuals, we need to think our way to prosperity, and then follow those thoughts.
Outrageous possibilities and a brand-new perspective are the order of the day. As counterintuitive as it may seem, right now is the perfect time to reevaluate and retool for the future.
Companies are also guilty of “hunkering down” and centralizing. In the name of profit and efficiency, spread sheets and process maps rule the world. Entrepreneurial thinkers are being replaced by those that can march in step without questioning orders. Creative resolve has almost reached the end of an era. Ironically, it will require a resurgence of this very component of American Ingenuity to pull us out of this funk.
When people head for their caves, spending decreases, companies miss their top-line sales numbers, pushing them toward panic-stricken behavior to save the short-term bottom line. More layoffs and spending cuts multiply the situation until the situation accelerates itself. Victimhood sets in and everyone looks for someone to blame. During hard times, countries, companies, and individuals alike lose efficacy.
